Badia a Coltibuono Chianti Classico is a highly traditional, organically farmed Tuscan red blend (predominantly Sangiovese with native blending partners Canaiolo, Ciliegiolo, and Colorino) that focuses on a bright, high-altitude, and textbook expression of the region's historic terroir: on the nose it shows bright red cherry, wild raspberry, and fresh red plum layered with crushed violets, dried thyme, tobacco leaf, and a subtle hint of white pepper, orange peel, and warm forest floor; the palate is medium-bodied, intensely savory, and wonderfully linear, with flavours of crunchy sour cherry, redcurrant, and juicy dark forest berries supported by notes of cocoa nibs, graphite, cedar wood, and a touch of leather, sometimes edging into riper hints of black raspberry, while fine-grained, chalky tannins and a classic, mouth-watering Tuscan acidity keep it remarkably long and focused; the finish is persistent, bone-dry, and highly refreshing, lingering on red berry skins, light wood spice, and a clean, chalky mineral earthiness.
